See notes for lost companion piece, "Mass for the Tegetthoff," 1923-1924. Letter to R. Parmenter, December 27, 1965, refers first to the loss of "Mass for the Tegetthoff", then to "A less beautiful `Bible Reading in the Tegetthoff' . . . which has, however, a neat passage: the reader is enveloped in a suspended cylindrical curtain 1/2 way down his shins, & his ankles & feet are shown. The mizzen mast is shown and the break of the poop [deck at the stern] & its P & S [port & starboard] ladders all greatly foreshortened from a high station-point."
