Notes

Painted in Provincetown, MA, of the home of the group known as "The Smooleys." The name was made up from their names; Smith, Roof, Smith and Foley. The Smooleys lived in the Hoke House and were renowned for their social and intellectual life and ED's early journals often refer to going to their parties. Edith Foley was Frances Foley Dickinson's eldest sister and introduced her to ED.
