Notes

Drawn in Paris, France, from memory, July 20 (letter to FD July 20). Inscription "ask Helen" refers to ED daughter who went to the Grotte with him. ED notes on reverse: "AM, I've thought of something about this that is not representative; the ground is sloping upward - an aclivity. Easy to fix but no good in erasing.""The masonry is light ochre; there are no signs, (2 or 3) save somewhat crudely lettered boards `Grotte.' I wish I'd taken a strike at it."
