Notes

Painted in Sheldrake, NY, between July 12 & 16, (journal). One of the "X Cliff" series. See notes for A CLIFF, SHELDRAKE, 1926. Painting so titled because a note on the reverse saying "began to rain" was mis-read for an exhibition as "Big Night Rain." ED liked this so well he added it to the "X Cliff" title. Cut down by ED, January 13, 1970, (journal).
