Notes: Painted in New York, NY, as part of a large nude self portrait (43x33") which included still life. January 26, "stretched 43 1/2 x 33 1/4 for Menkes' frame, February 1, "Rigged gear for 43/33, 2 "Began head of self for a composition 43 1/2 x 33 1/4", continued 3, 6, 8, 9, 20, 21, 22 "began color", 23, 24, 27, 28, March 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 30; April 5 moved to studio at 2 Columbus Circle, set up painting gear, and began torso; continued 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, May 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 "began L. side of torso.", 9, 10, 11, 12, 19, 30, boxed 43/33 for Wellfleet; June 20 got "2 beautiful porcelin [sic] pieces for still life for the 43/33 from Mary Frazier."; June 24"drawing Father's blue pitcher at R."; painted 28, July 7 on still life, 8, 11, 12, 13, August 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 26, 27, 30, 31.
1951: April 11 "Took still life blue & white pitcher from self-portrait 43-33 of last year (destroyed) to the Academy for my academician's diploma."
The head is presented as though a shingle were blowing across the face in a high wind. The hands were also saved but are lost.
