Painted in Paris, France, July 18 (journal), from window of Biala's apartment, "premier coup . . . my 1st landscape in my life in Paris." (journal). To FD, July 18, ". . . showing the roofs of the market & 9 hours - my 1st of Paris houses. It is a grey day but full polychrome, . . . worked so long on one house that, as time ran out, I wondered if I'd finish it. Right then, I recalled that I can draw, & finished it in 20 minutes. . . . (about 200 chimney-pots done in 3 or 4 minutes."
