Notes

Notes: Painted in New York, NY and uncompleted. It was inspired by ED's month at Skowhegan, ME in 1956 and his long interest in deep woods.

The painting is known from 1956 letters to daughter and son-in-law: October 15; "...I have a new piece on my easel - blank, a 60/50 (width first);" October 30; "I have a 50 x 60 underway at the studio . . . It will take some drawing." November 8; "I'm working & the 50/60 starts well & takes lots of drawing, A scene on the Kennebec River." November 14; "The 50/60 at the studio progresses slowly but not poorly. it will be a `View of the Kennebec', I guess. (but too little river will show but it can't be helped."
