Notes

Painted in Sheldrake, NY, in December from a photograph. ED note: "This made up marine from an incident in December 1919 is of interest only because it gives some idea of the appointments of the Nantucket Light Vessel physically. I was aboard her in the winter of 1918-1919." All his life ED had strong memories of his eight months [?] service on the Light Ship and wrote to his family while on board, e.g. December 29, 1918. The S.S. Lake Tahoe was the supply ship which brought out coal, food, mail and newspapers.
